ExLeap
The telepresence system using robots capable of reproducing bodily movements presents challenges in terms of ease of introduction, acquisition, maintenance, and most importantly, the ease of daily use for the user, despite providing physical interaction, immersion, and presence. We aim to achieve "Minimal Telepresence," which maintains the immersion of remote participants and their sense of presence on-site while utilizing a simple and long-lasting equipment setup. We are developing a system called ExLeap, which can transmit the footage from multiple omnidirectional cameras installed in a single room to remote participants and present their presence through audio and omnidirectional lighting. This system is designed to provide high immersion and a sense of freedom in moving quickly between camera positions. We have used ExLeap in practical settings such as funerals and business meetings and investigated the communication and interaction that arise in these scenarios.
