RemoteWalker
Wearable telepresence systems enable remote users to share outdoor activities with each other. However, the relationship between users is asymmetric, making it difficult to achieve bidirectional communication. We propose a concept and system that enables remote users to walk together while symmetrically transmitting their surrounding environments to each other. In this system, both the user and their remote partner wear HMDs and 360° cameras, transmitting 360° video, audio, and walking information to each other. A sphere onto which the other user's 360° video is mapped is superimposed on the user's own physical environment displayed through the HMD's video see-through function. The position of this sphere and the audio from the other user changes according to the other user's walking speed and direction. This enables users to walk through their own environment while visually and auditorily perceiving the movement and environment of the other user.
